MYDOOM.M VARINAT SPREADS IN THE WILD

Alias             : I-Worm/Mydoom.M, W32/Mydoom-O, WORM_MYDOOM.M

Virus details :

                     Mydoom.M is a mass mailing worm, uses  e-mail addresses collected from the infected system to distribute infected messages. Mydoom worm arrives as an e-mail attachment. The infected attachment name, subject and message body is randomly chosen by the worm. The worm also collects e-mail ids using search engines. This worm appeared on 26th July 2004.

The infected mail sample is given below

                     When the infected attachment is executed, copies itself to Windows folder as java.exe file in the background. It also drops a backdoor file services.exe in the Windows folder.

                     W32.Mydoom.M@mm modifies registry run section to load automatically on the next startup. The registry modification is given below.

                     W32.Mydoom.M@mm uses its own SMTP engine to send infected mails. It queries the follwoing search engines to collect e-mail addresses.
